Do you speak Saint-Gilles? is an audio neighborhood project in around the street Rue de Bosnie, in the neighborhood Saint-Gilles in Brussels, commissioned by the Region of Brussels.
The project gathers extraordinairy words that are spoken in the neighborhood through audio interviews. The recordings are collected in an online data base.
Neologisms, invented words, existing words whith changed meanings, multi-lingual, hybrids show the richness of a multi cultural neighborhood in which people from many origins find ways to communicate their lives experiences across cultural and language borders.
The recordings, radioshows, interventions in public space that we organise in the framework of this project form a sonic portrait of aneighborhood in motion, between september 2013 and 2015
The website of the project is in French: parlezvous1060.be and Dutch: spreektu1060.be
